Total value locked, or TVL, is the dollar value of the assets held in a protocol or a specific pool. Traders use it as a rough proxy for depth: more liquidity usually means a large trade moves the price less. It is a useful first glance, but it is a headline, not a guarantee.

## Where the number can mislead

TVL says nothing about whether that liquidity is actually withdrawable, whether one wallet controls most of it, or whether a token can be sold at all. A pool can show a large number while a transfer hook blocks exit. That is why BlazePhoenix caps every quote to the pools real, live balances and offers a free phantom-liquidity scan, so you check the capacity a trade can truly use instead of trusting a headline figure.

**Verify it yourself:** Scan any token with the free Pool X-Ray at /?tab=xray and compare its usable capacity to the TVL a listing site advertises
